Update (no pics yet)
OK, still don't have time to add pics, but the plumber came by tonight to see why our kitchen sink isn't draining properly. Turns out it's the busted garbage disposal. So he'll be back to remove it and add a second trap so the fleishig side doesn't back up into the milchig side. As long as he's back, we may as well swap out the faucet for something a little more modern (happy birthday, Chaya), and we'll get rid of the ridiculous toilet in the master bath for one that actually can handle what I plan on throwing it. We might also set up the ability to move the washer downstairs and keep it on the main sewage line (i.e., not the septic tank), thereby freeing up the existing laundry room to be used as a front closet. How exciting.

Removing the carpeting
I started work in the house by removing the awful wall-to-wall carpeting that was in Charna's room. Ripping it up wasn't so difficult, except for where the furniture was, as I had to lift and move the pieces as I tried to roll the carpet underneath. As I moved along I had to pry up the strips of wood that was full of nails to hold the carpet in place. A few staples and nails left to go, but it's almost done. Next I'll do Tzipporah's room, but first I'm going to invest in a carpet cutter. Pics to follow...

First Post
So this is the first post to the Gelman Family blog. I got the incentive to do this from my sister who is blogging her family's experience with making Aliyah and moving to Mizpe Yericho. You can read it here: Herskovits Aliyah Blog.
While not quite the impressive move that they made, we did mange to make it up to a new house in Wesley Hills. Once some of the boxes are cleared and we get to work on some the house projects, I hope to put up some pictures to chronicle the improvements. Of course there will be pictures of the kids as well.
I haven't fully decided on my approach to this yet, perhaps each aspect will end up with its own page. We'll see.
